How to Maintain Your Landscaping Rocks

by Tagline SeoTeam / Wednesday, 10 November 2021 / Published in Blog

Landscaping rocks are a great way to add an artistic element to your garden without spending too much money. Rocks are often used to surround flower beds, accent trees, or even edging along walkways. With proper care, they can last for years and provide beauty without breaking the bank. Here are some tips on how to maintain your landscaping rocks.

1. Moss and Weed Removal

With time, moss will grow on your rocks. Moss isn’t always bad for your landscaping rocks, but it can make them look dirty. A simple solution is to use a natural rock cleaner and scrub the affected area until the moss has been removed.

If you have weeds growing around the edges of your rocks, it is better to pull them out by hand instead of using chemicals. Using too much chemical weed killer can stain or even discolor your rocks.

2. Cleaning Your Rocks

If there is a lot of dirt or dust on your rocks, use a soft brush to remove it. Avoid using any steel wool or metal brushes that can scratch or ruin the appearance of your rocks. If you have particularly stubborn dirt areas, you can try scrubbing them with a mixture of warm water and dish soap. This removes most types of dirt and stains.

Also, take care to remove any sap, bird droppings, or other substances that may have dripped on your rocks. This will avoid damage to your rocks and ensure they look their best for longer periods.

3. Replace Weathered or Broken Rocks

After a few years, your rocks may become weathered and discolored. This is natural and can be remedied by replacing those stones. If some of the larger rocks in your landscaping have broken over time, you should take these away as well and replace them with new ones.

4. Place Coarse Gravel

If you are landscaping with rocks that do not have flat surfaces, it is good to use coarse gravel underneath them. This will help prevent your landscaping rocks from sinking into the ground over time.

Natural flagstone is broken-up sedimentary rock that’s used for landscaping. Many homeowners like using it for decorative purposes on surfaces such as patios, walkways, and flower beds. It’s often employed for its aesthetic value, but landscaping rocks can also help prevent soil erosion near waterways or in other settings. Maintaining your landscaping rocks is easy and doesn’t take a lot of time or money. Just follow these simple steps to ensure they look great for many years to come.
